A remote patient monitoring system to help at-home patients measure their own vitals (blood pressure, oxygen levels, glucose, weight, etc) and report them to physicians.

G.Lab is an early-stage Toronto-based startup that is a subsidiary of a larger company based in Hong Kong (Grandway Technology Limited) which manufactures blood pressure monitors. They are launching this startup to expand into a new market.

Competitive Analysis of Remote Patient Monitoring Systems

Competitive Analysis & UX Research

I began this design project by researching leading companies in the remote patient monitoring services market. By researching similar competitor products and studying the UI in the perspective of a user, I got to understand the classic user experience for remote patient vital monitoring and observe multiple user journey paths.

Utilizing the CEO's initial project brief and my competitive research, I was able to identify key user needs and segment them into main components of the clinic monitoring portal (Patient List, Patient Details, Reports, Messages, and Settings). With the clinic portal mapped out, the additional user journey paths for patients, as well as families of patients became easier to envision as well.

Wireframing with Miro

Low-Fidelity Wireframing: Main Product Components

Following user research, I pitched an initial low-fi design mapping out the website layout, key components, and high-level details I believed were important to include on each screen. The purpose of this was to visually communicate my understanding of the product and user pain points with the company, and ensure every party is aligned on the vision.

Utilizing feedback collected from the CEO and CTO, I iterated on the low-fi wireframes before beginning to develop the designs on Figma and carrying out the 0->1 design.

Design System & Figma Prototype

I decided on a color palette and font schema to represent the project moodboard, which should convey feelings of trust and safety as a healthcare company. The goal was a high-end, minimalistic design that was still energetic, so complimentary shades of blue were chosen for the primary color scheme. The selected font is also consistent with competitor products, as Arial is a classic and familiar font often used in the HealthTech industry.

Using this moodboard, I went on to create a basic design system for the project, and then developed a clickable prototype on Figma to showcase the full clinic portal flow, with full interactions for the Patient List and Details pages, Reports, Messages, and Settings tabs.

The prototype is currently being shipped to beta testers as a product demo. I am in process of collecting feedback from usability testing and re-iterating on the design to reflect user knowledge and understanding of the product.
